Preventing Fraud
Fraud can happen to anyone, at any time and in a number of different ways. It is important that you recognize and act on it quickly so that you decrease your risk of being impacted.
- It is important to keep your personal details up-to-date. If you move or your personal details change, please let your credit card company know so that they can update their records. Most credit card companies will try and contact customers if they suspect there has been fraudulent activity.
- If you are travelling, it is prudent to contact your credit card company to let them know. Most credit card companies will block cards if suspicious activity occurs, which could include transactions in places you don’t normally frequent. Another good practise is to stop or divert your mail if you plan to be away from home for long periods of time.
- When making purchases over the phone, only give your information if you made the phone call yourself. This way you know who you’re dealing with – otherwise, the caller may be misrepresenting themselves in an effort to get your account number and use it.
